From street dog to show dog...

.........and the winner in the "best rescued female" category in all of Spain, nay all of the world is.................Calcetines.
But our story today begins at 8am this morning when we drove to Alhaurin el Grande, about an hour and twenty minutes south of Olvera near to Malaga.
Pictured below is Alfie who we met and Calcetines took quite a liking to.

We had seen an advert in the english language paper Euro Weekly for a fun dog show taking place, so we thought it would be a good day out. The event was taking place at the Andalucian Rescue Centre for Horses (A.R.C.H.) in conjunction with CHAIN (Charity for Animals in Need) and organised by Denise and Bill at the Cat and Dog World centre, raising funds for abandoned and rescued dogs. So a worthy cause, well worth supporting.
We arrived about 9.30am and registered Calcetines for three classes, Best Intermediate 1-7 years old, Prettiest Female and the Best Rescued Female, convinced of course that she would win all three.
The winner of the best puppy class was this lovely bulldog.

All the classes were open to handlers of all ages and experience.

This boxer was having great fun trying to burst the balloon, which it eventually succeeded in doing.

The atmosphere was very friendly, as it should be at a fun event, with everyone enjoying their mutual love of dogs.

Believe it or not, this bulldog won the Prettiest Female category. Beauty is very definitely in the eye of the beholder.

I understand that the stewards enquiry is still going on !!.

The object of the day was of course to raise funds for rescued and abandoned dogs, three of which were at the show. This one here was picked by a lady at the show and taken home with her.

Paris pictured here and Luna below, who was left at the rescue centre when her owners returned to the UK, still await good, loving homes.

This greyhound was abandoned by hunters when she got too old but thankfully was rescued two years ago and is now living a happy retirement.

The moment it was announced that Calcetines was a superstar, not that she was particularly bothered. More interested in the dog in front.

A very, very proud mum after receiving her winners certificate and rosette.

What a fantastic day. Definitely a calendar event for next year. After all, Calcetines has to defend her title.
Hopefully, the organisers made loads of money to continue their good work.
