New park project

A new park and recreation area is being created on Avenida Julian Besteiro, near to the industrial estate, to visually improve what is the main approach road into Olvera.

The park is one of three projects being jointly funded by the Town Hall and provincial government, the others being improvements to the Vereda del Pino and improvement of the access and pavements on the industrial estate.

A few pictures taken on the last day of 2012 as we went for a stroll this afternoon, the temperature at about 10°C.

A Happy New Year to one and all and may all your hopes, dreams and wishes come true in 2013.

Christmas catch up

A combination of Christmas, a sore throat and an irritable cough have delayed me posting for a while so just a catch up with some pictures taken a few days ago on the 26th. Here, the Calcetines fan club on parade as we passed by.
Apart from Christmas day, when it rained in the morning, the weather over the holiday period has been sunny and quite warm.

Repair work has been started on the road that was in danger of collapsing near to the Casa de la Cultura.

This morning brought more sunshine although a little cooler at about 10°C as we walked to the usual Saturday market.
A sign advising that cars will be prohibited from parking in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento this coming Sunday due to the arrival of the "Royal Postman". They will be collecting messages and gift requests from the children of Olvera in the hope that their wishes will be granted on the 6th January, the traditional day for the giving and receiving of Christmas gifts in Spain.
 The view over the market.

Oranges a plenty on the trees at the moment.
Improvements continue on the road surface near to the Casa de la Cultura.
Calle Calvario and below Calle Llana.

A couple of pictures taken on the terrace upon our return home.

Belén del Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

A beautiful, warm day so no excuse needed to visit the Santuario Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, just outside of Olvera, and view the spectacular Belén (Nativity scene) that is annually created in the internal patio area.

As always, a stunningly beautiful display so not much more is needed to be said apart from enjoy the pictures.

Belén del Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno

After viewing the Nativity scene of Santa Entierro, I walked the short distance to a nearby building housing the "Belén del Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno".

Once again, a fabulous recreation of the Nativity with so much attention and care to detail.

The "Casa Hermandad", in which the Nativity is displayed is also included in the scene.
