Día Internacional del Mayor

One of the things we love most about Olvera is the real sense of community here, particularly when people of all ages come together in support of good causes.
Today was the "International Day of the Elderly" and to celebrate, an event was organised at the Colegio San José de Calasanz. Pictured right is the logo of the event....not a self portrait (yet) I hasten to add !.
So we popped along, arriving at about 5.30pm and joined the already large audience awaiting an evening of dance and entertainment provided by the duo "Image".

The volunteer ladies and gentleman were busy preparing the refreshments.

A welcome and a few short speeches were made, recognising and celebrating the contribution and the value of the elderly in our society.
Big queues formed for the cakes and traditional "churro con chocolate", a fried dough that is dipped in thick, warm chocolate.

After refreshments, the band started playing and the dancing started.

It was good to meet up with many of our friends and even better to feel welcome and a part of life here in Olvera.
