VIII Marcha BTT Olvera

We were up early this morning to watch the start of a cycling event organised by the "Club Cyclista Navalagrulla" of Olvera.

Well, two events really as the cyclists had the option of either a 53km (33 mile) or 78km (49 mile) ride, or perhaps endurance test would be more appropriate.

We waited in the Plaza de la Concordia and it wasn't too long before the procession of cyclists appeared, after having gathered at the start point at the Recinto Ferial .

I think the organisers were hoping for up to 500 entrants and it certainly looked like they'd achieved that.
They did a short circuit around a few streets before heading out into the countryside by way of the Via Verde on their marathon ride.

The volunteers of the Protección Civil of Olvera, who provide superb safety cover and support to the emergency services at many of the events in town.

I hope these guys will still be smiling after 78 kms.

The last competitor disappears at just gone 9.30am.
