Embalses del Guadalteba-Guadalhorce

The beauty of Olvera lies not only in its visual charm but also in its location in the north east corner of the province of Cadiz.
Within an hour or two's drive are Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Gibraltar and the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.
In even less time you can also be in the beautiful area known as the Malaga Lake District.

So today, in lovely warm weather, we set off on the 45 minute drive to the Embalses (Reservoirs) of the Guadalteba and Guadalhorce located about 12kms south of Campillos, just off the main A-357 road to Malaga.

The route to the embalses takes you through stunningly beautiful scenery and incredible rock formations, obviously popular at weekends judging by the number of vehicles, bikers and walkers about.

After a short while we came across the Bar Restaurante El Kiosco and stopped off for a coffee.

After coffee we drove on, eventually arriving at "El Chorro", a reservoir famed for its gorge and walkway, at present closed, along the cliff face.

Lunch was beckoning so we adjourned to the nearby Restaurante El Pilar for an excellent meal of pork in a pepper sauce with chips and vegetables. Delicious.

We journeyed home stopping off many times to take in the staggering views.

Definately an area worth visiting on a lazy Sunday and very popular for picnics and parties by the lakes.
As an aside, we were very pleased to see that at least the rainfall we'd had over the winter had brought the water levels back to near normal.
