Procesión de la Vera-Cruz

Tonight's procession of the True Cross was scheduled to leave from the Plaza de la Iglesia at about 8.30pm. We arrived early to take advantage of a rare opportunity to have a look at the ongoing restoration work within the Church. There had certainly been a vast improvement since last year but still a lot to do.

The view of Olvera through the main entrance of the Church.

The procession was again accompanied by the Nazarenos bearing their candles.

To a large and appreciative audience, the paso depicting Jesus on the Cross, left the Church at just before 9pm. It was supported by between sixty and seventy men, all working together in harmony to the rythym of the sombre music played by the accompanying band.

The second paso to emerge from the Church was again carried by between sixty or seventy Costaleros.

We watched the procession slowly disappear down Calle Calzada on its long journey around the streets of Olvera, to eventually return to the Plaza in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
