Laguna de Fuente de Piedra

On the road again, this time to the salt lake at Fuente de Piedra, a significant breeding ground for pink flamingos. The lake is 2.5km's wide and 6.5km's in length and lies about 35 kms east of Olvera.

We arrived at the visitor centre about 10.30'ish to be informed that we were a bit early in the year as the majority of birds had not yet arrived but there were apparently a few out in the middle of the lake.
So not to be disappointed, we were given a guide and proceeded to walk to the first Mirador (viewpoint) to have a look.

Anne looking for the lesser spotted pink flamingos. We thought we could see them in the middle of the lake but the binoculars were not powerful enough to be sure.

Somewhere out there be pink flamingos !!

Looking from the Mirador across the lake.

We left the main visitor centre and drove around the lake to this spot, looking back towards Fuente de Piedra in the distance........but still no flamingos.

Never mind. A nice drive out and we look forward to coming here again in a few weeks time, when hopefully our luck will change.
