Sizzling heat

Phew !!. Do you remember the times when you arrive at your holiday destination, the cabin door opens and a blast of hot air hits you in the face, just like a hot air dryer.
Well, the weather over the last couple of days has been just like that, in the high thirties with a very warm breeze adding to the temperature. We've had rumblings of thunder around us and a few spots of rain but it passed us by, leaving us to swelter in the heat.

Just a few pictures today taken at two different locations. The two above are of the ruined fort that sits above the cortijo where we normally collect our spring water. However, today the spring was cordoned off and was down to a trickle so I headed off to Algodonales, about a twenty minute drive from Olvera.

After filling up the bottles and returning back to Olvera through the "tunnel" just outside Algodonales, I turned off at a cortijo that is sometimes used as a landing area for hang gliders outside of the growing season.
The sunflowers are sadly starting to die off now and will soon be ready for harvesting, having provided a spectacular display this year.
Looking across the fields to the Algarin Cliff and Los Grajas Abyss, which dominate the village of El Gastor that nestles beneath them.

A lone survivor, hanging on for as long as possible.

We'll try to bring some cooler Wisconsin weather to you in August. The past week has been in the low 20s.
