Estepona

A drive out today to the Mediterranean resort of Estepona, just under two hours drive south of Olvera.
We arrived at just after 11am and parked fairly easily near to the old town and what a fabulous surprise awaited us. The Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) have embarked on a project to brighten up the streets of the old town centre with new paving, pedestrianised streets where previously cars had access and beautiful displays of coloured pots and plants.

Set just one street back from the seafront, Calle Cruz here and below.
Apparently, the ongoing project will eventually spread to thirty streets and apart from the beautiful displays of flowers it is creating badly needed employment in the town.
We passed by the Town Hall where dancing and singing in celebration of a marriage was taking place.

The 18th century Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios.

 The Plaza de Las Flores.

Many modern art statues appeared at different places within the town.
"Honest. It was only ten euros and you know a girl can never have enough tops. You're so, so mean!!"

 Siesta time.
It seemed like every street we turned into was better than the previous one, each competing with different coloured pots and flowers.

We left the old part of town and walked the short distance to the seafront.

I have no doubt that next month this beach will be packed.

The "Paseo Marítimo Pedro Manrique" is the promenade that stretches along a good length of the seafront, again well cared for with plenty of seating, shade and planted garden areas.
We were really impressed with Estepona, particularly with the old town. Well worth an overnight stay sometime to explore more.
