Opening event

We walked down town last night to attend the opening event of the Carnaval, held in a marqee next to the Polideportivo (indoor sports centre). The event was scheduled to start at 20.30pm so we arrived on time but we should know by now that this is really only an indication.

While we were waiting for the start of the show, Tania, the beautiful outgoing Carnaval Queen kindly posed for this picture. She was due to hand over her crown to the new Queen tonight.

The venue starting to fill up.

At about 21.30pm, to a packed audience, the show opened with a schoolroom scene.

T.V. Olvera were on hand to film the show.

At this point, being about 22.45pm, we must offer our apologies to the rest of the show's participants, but time was drifting by and the pangs of hunger were starting to have an effect. So, with reluctance, we retired to a nearby bar for tapas and refreshments.
