Traditionally here in Spain, on the stroke of midnight and with each chime after, you are meant to swallow a grape.....without choking!!.This will then ensure prosperity and happiness in the coming year.
So armed with our cans of twelve grapes, we joined the gathering crowd in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
Our lovely neighbours Rosalia and Eduardo with son Alejandro.

At just before midnight a hush came over the Plaza in anticipation of the first chime and the challenge of the grape eating. And then at the first chime amid big cheers, the first grape is devoured followed by the next and the next...........!
Sorry, but it was impossible to take any pics at this point due to eating the grapes and getting showered with sparkling wine.
The final chime was the signal for a display of fireworks set off from the highest point of the castle above the square.
After the display, the crowd dispersed to homes and bars throughout Olvera.
We had an invitation to join our neighbours Eduardo and Rosalia for drinks and cake so after a couple of drinks at Bar Pepe Rayas we headed off to join them at their home.
