Today we took the short twenty minute drive to Algodonales to see another event in the commemoration of the resistance of the village to Napoleon's troops in 1810.
This event was described as the "Batalla", which we believed to be a depiction of the final stand of the villagers against the overwhelming force and ultimate victory of Napoleon's troops.
The pictures show the last stand of the villagers in front of the Church of Santa Anna after having harrassed the invading troops throughout the streets of the village.
The inevitable end.
What a brilliant event. We only saw a small part of it as the whole event is dramatised over a four day period, going on each day late into the evening.
We look forward to coming back next year to see more.
