Semana Santa schedule 2013

I have just noticed that the routes and timings for the Semana Santa (Holy Week) processions in Olvera are now available on the Ayuntamiento website. Please note that there are some differences from our original post so for accuracy please check the Ayuntamiento website here:

Sunday 24th March at 10.30hrs. The "Procesión de Ramos" (Palm Sunday) departs from Calle Llana then Calle Calzada to the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación in the Plaza de la Iglesia.

Monday 25th March at 20.00hrs. The "Procesión del Christo del Cautivo y Nuestra Señora del Socorro" departs from the Iglesia del Socorro and proceeds along Calles Salada, Socorro, Sevilla, Plaza Arias, Tafetanes, Vieja, Pilar, Plaza Alfarería, Almería, Nueva, Victoria, Llana, Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Azuaga, Partida, San Ildefonso, Salada and returning to the Iglesia del Socorro in the early hours.

Tuesday 26th March at 23.00hrs. The "Procesión de la Penitencia de Hombres". A silent men only procession departing from the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación and onto Calle Calzada, Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Azuaga, Partida, Maestro Amado, Cervantes, Los Cantillos, Llana and finishing at the Iglesia de la Victoria.
Also on Tuesday 26th March at 23.00hrs. The "Procesión de la Penitencia de Mujeres". A silent women only procession departing from the Iglesia de la Victoria in Calle Victoria, along Calles Calvario, Plaza de la Concordia, San Juan Bosco, finishing at the Iglesia de San José de la Montaña. 

Wednesday 27th March at 20.00hrs. The "Procesión Cristo del Amor". Departing from the Residencia Escolar Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (at the rear of the old Guardia Civil building) along the Avenida Manuel de Falla, Fuente Nueva, Plaza de la Concordia, Julian Besteiro, Avenida Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, Barriada Coronación, Julian Besteiro, Plaza de la Concordia, Fuente de Nueva, Avenida Manuel de Falla, returning to the Residencia Escolar.

Thursday 28th March at 06.00hrs. The "Procesión de Jesús Nazareno and Nuestra Señora de los Dolores" departs from the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación along Calles Calzada, Maestro Amado, Pulido, Carmona, Vieja, Pilar, Plaza Alfarería, Vereda Ancha, Fuente Nueva, Plaza de la Concordia, Calvario, Victoria, Llana before finishing at the Casa Hermandad on Calle Pico at approximately 13.00hrs.
Thursday 28th March at 18.30 hrs. The "Traslado del Santísimo Sacramento". Departs from the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, along Calles Calzada and Llana to the Iglesia de la Victoria". 

Thursday 28th March at 20.00hrs. The "Procesión de la Vera-Cruz" departs from the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación and along Calles Calzada, Llana, Victoria, Calvario, El Gastor, Encarnación, Plaza Fuente Nueva, Plaza de la Concordia, Calvario, Victoria, Llana, Calzada and finishing in the early hours back at the Plaza de la Iglesia. 

Friday 29th March at 19.30hrs. The "Procesión del Santo Entierro" departs from the Plaza de la Iglesia along Calles Calzada, Llana, Pico, Mercado, Calvario, El Gastor, Encarnación, Plaza Fuente Nueva, Plaza de la Concordia, Calvario, Victoria, Llana, Calzada and returning to the Plaza de la Iglesia.

Declared an event of National Tourist Interest, Semana Santa week is one of the most spectacular and outstanding events in the annual calendar. The passion, devotion and dedication of all who take part has to be witnessed to be believed. Hopefully the weather will be kind.
