"Carnaval" programme 2013

The Ayuntamiento has just issued the schedule of events for, in my opinion, the best fiesta of the year...Carnaval. The agenda as follows:

Saturday 9th February at 18.00hrs. The opening declaration of the Carnaval in the marquee at the Indoor sports Centre.
Sunday 10th February at 17.00hrs in the marquee at the Indoor Sports Centre. A party with traditional Carnaval chocolate and cakes and performances from the Chirigota singing groups "A la tercera va la vencía", "Los Recortadores", "Las Remedios, caminan o revientan" and "La Prima de Riesgo". Also, the presentation of awards for the drawing competition.
Monday 11th February at 16.30hrs. A procession of the children from the "El Olivo" infants school on Avda. Julián Besteiro and finishing at 18.00hrs at the Indoor Sports Centre for music and games.
Tuesday 12th February at 16.00hrs. Processions by the students of E.E.I. Gloria Fuertes and C.E.P San José de Calasanz through the streets of Olvera followed by a students party at the Indoor Sports Centre.
Thursday 14th February at 18.00hrs. A procession by the students of the I.E.S. Zaframagón through the streets of Olvera to the Indoor Sports Centre followed by a party into the night with music and games.
Saturday 16th February at 16.00hrs. The Grand Carnaval Procession of all participants departing from the Plaza de Ayuntamiento through the streets of Olvera, ending at the Pavilion on the fairground. From 19.00hrs onwards, music, games, presentations of awards and general partying and fun until midnight.
Sunday 17th February at 13.00hrs. Performances by the Chirigota singing groups in the park area on Vereda Ancha or in the event of rain at the Indoor Sports Centre.
As always, for accuracy of translation and procession routes, please refer to the Ayuntamiento website here or the poster below.
If you are in Olvera or planning a visit, you are assured of a fantastic time at Carnaval. Enjoy.

Familiar scenes......

......although I know that a lot of our viewers look in to see what the weather is like.
Well today is sunny and warm with a temperature of about 17°C but forecast to change to more seasonal norms over the coming weekend.

Warming up nicely

A beautiful, warm afternoon with hardly a cloud in the sky.

Plenty of oranges in the tree's. Not for eating though unless turned into our friend Dan's delicious marmalade.

Looking over the "Jardines de la Victoria".

 16.3° centigrade.

Our lovely Calcetines enjoying the sun.

Misty morn

A few pictures of the mists in the valleys to the west as the sun rose over Olvera this morning.

A warmish day.....

.....as I wandered down into town this morning, primarily to have a look at a new pet shop that looks to be opening soon in Avenida Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, near to the Mercadona supermarket.
The view to the Sierra de Grazalema.
 Calle Alcalá del Valle.

The castle and church from Avenida Julián Besteiro.

Looking down Calle Azorin to a distant Pruna castle.

In the Plaza de la Concordia and below the now disused Guardia Civil building.

 A quiet Calle Llana.
The Plaza de Andalucia here and below.

Misty views!

Although there wasn't much to see this afternoon as the fog enveloped Olvera in temperatures of about 9°C.

The "Telefonica Tower" where on warmer days it's very pleasant to sit out at Bar La Noria.

Antes y despues (before and after)

I must admit, I did say to Anne after the clock face on the iconic Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación had been blown out by the recent high winds, that it would probably be a while before it was fixed. Well today we looked up and, surprise, surprise, a new face had been fitted.
The hole where the clock face used to be after the storm.....
......and today with a new face. Well done to the Ayuntamiento for acting so quickly.
