It may be of interest to our expatriate readers, particularly those resident in Spain for more than two years, that a new law comes into effect on the 19th January 2013 requiring all holders of UK driving licences to comply with an EU directive. The new directive does not require you to change your UK licence but does require that you undertake a medical examination in compliance with the driving licence laws of Spain.
Since we have lived here, there has always been some debate as to whether people should retain their UK licence or exchange it for a Spanish one. The new law does not require you to change your licence but does apparently require you to notify your place of residence to the UK DVLA.
