Caños Santos

A lazy Sunday. Anne was busy in the house so I took the opportunity to take a little trip out in the direction of Alcalá del Valle and the Convento de Caño Santos, about twenty five minutes drive from Olvera. It's quite breezy today but warm at about 20°C with some wispy clouds passing by.

The pueblo of Alcalá de Valle.
I turned off the road onto the track that led to the 16th century Convent that still looks to be undergoing restoration, although looking through the windows the internal areas look pretty much completed. I have just found a link here to another blog that suggests the convent is being converted to a 35 bedroom hotel. Scroll down the blog to the "Architectural Jewel Under Renovation" topic for more info.

A fresh water spring in the grounds.
The spectacular views however need no improvement or restoration.

The intriguing entrances to two caves that lead into the rock from the grounds. Must get some batteries for my torch and explore further one day.

Displayed in the grounds are a couple of these ceramic artworks depicting the activities of the convent and it's association with the nearby pueblo of Alcalá.

The inscription on this plaque of the monks standing by the entrance to the caves, kindly supplied by good friend Dan, reads as follows:
"These Grottos are the sole work of the members of the enclave, they are most likely to be the only route to the underground galleries."

Always a pleasant place to just come and sit, to enjoy the views and the peace and quiet.
