Saturday sunshine

Looking from our terrace this morning, the valleys partially hidden by the smoke haze from the burning of the olive wood in the fields surrounding Olvera.
By about 11am though, the sun was really warm as we sat in the shade for a coffee at Bar La Noria watching the familiar scenes of the busy Saturday market.

Pasacalles de I.E.S.Zaframagón

The senior students from the I.E.S.Zaframagón school were parading through the streets this evening as part of Carnaval week.
Always a lively, noisy and fun event, they really get into the spirit of Carnaval and bystanders are not immune from being "encouraged" to take part in the festivities.

We watched for a while as the procession passed us in Avenida Manuel de Falle before taking a shortcut to catch it again in a crowded Plaza de la Concordia.

These great guys saw our camera and after explaining that the monk was one of the most famous people in Spain they were happy to pose for a picture.

Tajo de Molino

A trip out today to the "Tajo del Molino"(Mill gorge), a limestone gorge near to pueblo of Teba, eroded over millions of years by the Rio La Venta as it winds its way to the Guadalteba reservoir pictured above. (My route here)

Access to the gorge is well signposted and gained by leaving the main road and parking below the viaduct.
There were no visible signs as to pathways so I settled for the right hand bank of the river.

After about 30 metres however, I realised that I had made a mistake as it was impossible to go further without wading into the water.
So retracing my steps, I crossed to the other side via this "bridge" across the fast flowing river.
After clambering over a few rocks, I found a sort of pathway and headed further into the gorge.
Once the seabed between Europe and Africa, the rock formations have a definite slant reflecting the upward movement of the continental plates millions of years ago.

In some areas, walking was reasonably easy but shortly after this point the path once again became impassable due to the water depth and with no crossing point I had to turn back.
The old ruined mill, my ultimate destination, viewed from the closest I could get at about 100 metres away

Upon leaving the gorge, I took a different direction which on Google Earth showed a route skirting the Guadalteba reservoir. However, once again I declined to get wet as the road disappeared into the water.
Visible about 100 metres to my right was the other end of the road. Pictured below, the gorge as seen on the road to the reservoir.
So once again, thwarted by the elements, I reversed and headed back to Olvera. However, as I always say, there's no such thing as a wasted journey. A new place explored, a new road discovered and another beautiful day to have enjoyed the wonderful scenery of Andalucia.

Back to normal.......

....as today is free of Carnaval events so a few pictures on our normal afternoon walk in a pleasant temperature of about 15°C.
Aaah, one day perhaps....just the style and size of motorhome that I would love to have, parked on Calle Bellavista. Dream on!!.

We sat for a while in the Plaza de Andalucia enjoying the warm sun.
The temperature in the shade of Calle Llana shows a cooler 13.3°C.

The archway leading into the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and below the view of clear, cloudless skies from our terrace.

Pasacalles de E.E.I. Gloria Fuertes

Equally colourful and enjoyable was the parade by the youngsters of the Gloria Fuertes school.

Totally oblivious to all the whistles and drums was this youngster, dressed for the occasion, whose grandmother beckoned for me to take a picture at presumably his/her first Carnaval event.

Our lovely friend Mari and her delightful daughter Nuria on the left are regular participants.

Brilliant fun.
Enjoy a little of the atmosphere in this short video.
