Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi in Olvera is a very special event, when friends and neighbours decorate the streets with leaves, plants and flowers and create beautiful and stunning shrines in every street.

 All of the participating streets are visited by a procession that we watched as it passed through the Town Hall square.

 The parish priest of Olvera stops at each shrine along the route to offer a blessing.

Once again, events like this only serve to show what a great community spirit there is here in Olvera. A fantastic display of dedication and devotion well worth supporting and appreciating.

After returning from El Gastor this afternoon, we had a short siesta before taking a stroll at about 4pm to see the preparations in Olvera for the celebrations and procession that would take place later this evening.

Corpus Christi

Yesterday saw the annual festival in Olvera, when several streets in the old part of town were decorated with greenery and flowers in honour of Corpus Christi, a celebration dating back to the 13th century of the victory of the Resurrection of Christ over Death.

The community in each street make a real effort to decorate their houses and take great pleasure and pride in the many visitors, both local and from other area's, who take the time to stop and admire their efforts and hard work.
So quite a few pics of the event.

One of the shrines in Calle de Carmona. Each street prepares one or more shrines that are blessed by the priest during a procession that takes place during the evening.

At just after eight in the evening, the large procession left the Iglesia Santa Maria de la Victoria on the start of the route to bless the altars and shrines.
