Bicentenario de la Villa de El Bosque
Today, in the company of our friends Dan and Alison, we drove to the picturesque mountain pueblo of El Bosque that sits on the main A-373 Villamartin-Ubrique road. The reason for our visit was to watch the re-enactment of the events that took place 200 years ago when the villagers ancestors resisted the advance of Napoleon's army.
We arrived at about 12.45pm, parked at the bottom of the village and walked the short distance to the Plaza de la Constitución.
On a beautifully warm day, we joined the already large crowd of onlookers awaiting the start of proceedings.
The story unfolds with the villagers going about their normal everyday business of socialising with children playing in the streets.
Very soon though, Napoleons troops arrive and the villagers rally to the defence of their village.
Eventually however, after fierce resistance, the villagers are overwhelmed and retreat.
The women of the pueblo commiserate and comfort each other at the loss of their menfolk as the victors parade through the streets below.

Mix of pics
A mixture of pictures this morning as we wandered through town to the bank and elsewhere. Here, the ongoing restoration work being undertaken in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
All of the paving around the outside is being replaced and also the decorative paving leading to the town emblem in the centre of the square.
Calle Llana, here and below.
Out of the shade it's a lovely, warm day with temperatures at about 15°C.
Avenida Julián Besteiro.
Looking down Avenida Diputación and the excellent opticians on the right where I recently renewed my glasses.
Today is the annual "International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women" with a series of events taking place in Olvera during today and this evening.
