We left the house at 9.30 this morning heading west towards the town of Arcos de la Frontera, 52 kms distant, intending to skirt around the bottom of Arcos and head to the lake.
Arriving about 45 minutes later, we left the main A-382 at the first exit to Arcos, then after a short distance taking the A-372 signposted El Bosque.
Looking up at Arcos on top of the escarpment.
With the lake on our left, we turned left to "El Santiscal" and after a short while we arrived at the lakeside.
It was obviously a popular spot for fishermen and we watched this chap bring in what I thought was a carp.
The boat pictured right is called the Barco Solar and offers cruises on the lake. It is solar driven, pollution and noise free. Click here for sailing times and more information.
After a pleasant walk along the shore we headed off again towards El Bosque, stopping off for a delicious breakfast of mollete (toasted roll) and coffee at the Restaurante Los Molinos.
We briefly stopped of in El Bosque, a very pretty village, before heading back on the A-373 to Villamartin and then back to Olvera, a leisurely, circular trip of about four hours.
