The gas scammers are back!!!
I know we have a few readers in Olvera who look at the blog regularly.
Just to let you know that the "Gas con men" are back in town carrying out illegal inspections on your gas installations.
They will knock at your door , show an ID card and ask to come in and inspect your gas installation. Once inside, they will proceed to tell you that fittings need changing and then bill you extortionate costs for doing so, plus the inspection costs.
DO NOT LET THEM INTO YOUR HOUSE. IT IS A SCAM to obtain money. If they are insistent, threaten to call the police.
So please be aware.

Gas Installation Certificate
We had a request this morning to put a bit of info on the blog about the installation and inspection of bottled gas appliances.
For those who may be unaware, any property with bottled gas for cookers or boilers must have a Certificate of Installation, confirming that the gas has been installed and inspected by an approved agent of Cepsa.
The Certificate is valid for five years from the date of installation/inspection and covers the adaptor and rubber pipe. A date is stamped on the pipe showing the expiry date when the rubber pipe and adaptor should be replaced.
We have been told that if left to the Cepsa representative to change the pipe, it may cost you considerably more than if you went to the ferretaria, bought a new pipe and adaptor and fitted it yourself.
So it may be worth checking your gas bottles to ensure the fittings are in date and more importantly safe.

As a footnote, please also be aware of "unsolicited" calls by gas men knocking on doors and asking to inspect your gas appliances to ensure thay are in date and safe. IT IS A CON to obtain money from the unwary and under false pretences.
We got caught unawares last year, not knowing the system, and stupidly allowed them access into the house. We think they particularly target houses with large satellite dishes...usually an indication of property owned by foreigners.
They dress like official gas inpectors, with Cepsa logo's on their orange and grey t-shirts and against our better judgement paid for an adaptor we didn't need and also signed up for a worthless maintenance contract. Thankfully, and after reading up on various forums about these con artists, we got away lightly regarding the amount we paid.
The upshot is "do not let these people inside the house" and if they are persistent, threaten to contact the the police or Ayuntamiento.
